HAPPY BİRTHDAY Margaret Atwood
Hello! We have read the Blind Assasin great pleasure although it was a difficult text.
Your work, that entails entangled fiction in four layers, starts as a story but writes a private history of Canada. Some of our friends loved the stories of the Blind Assassin that gives the taste of “1001 nights”, and some of our friends loved the story of the family that covered a hundred years. We all liked your humorous narrative full of surprises. We also talked about your activist and feminist thoughts, your critique of child exploitation and your success in making your anti-war attitude without losing sight of the big picture. This selection for our creative reading class was widely appreciated in the workshop. In fact, it was even liked more than the ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ which is a world-wide success at the moment. We will continue to think and talk about the book as it is a rich resource to talk about literature and life in general. Our friends have said that they found the tastes of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Jose Saramago’s Blindness, Thomas Mann’s Buddenbrooks and Balzac’s Father Goriot and also “Kiralık Konak” by Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoglu. We loved Iris, Laura, Reenie and Myra, and we are planning to make woodoo dolls for Richard and Winifred 🙂
We thank you very much for touching us with the magic of literature and we wish you a very happy birthday from
